SpyderWood

I always had a fascination with Halloween which has now turned into a full blown obsession! A fun and enjoyable obsession. SpyderWood started with a small series of events over the course of a year. It began with me looking for a how-to on building a giant spider. After being on the net for a couple of hrs finding nothing I stumbled across a forum called Hauntspace. I joined the forum only to look around and see if they had what I was looking for.In a rush I picked the name Spiderfreak as my forum name. Sadly they didn't but I found a whole lot of information about prop building I had no clue about! There was also a whole community of people that enjoyed Halloween as much as I did, some more so! I soon found through this community other forums with loads of information on prop building(they are posted in my forums section). Along about this time I met on line two lovely ladies known as Ghostess and Valkeryie, they invited me to join another forum. It took me a while but I finally joined The Florida Haunters Forum, one of the best decisions I ever made. The head of the forum, Ghostess, was having an M&T (Make and Take) Although I am a bit reserved/shy around new people I went and had a great time. Learned new information and tips on building tombstones. SpyderWood was growing by the day!  With all the new information and prop how-to's I still didn't have a giant spider, so I decided to make one with the knowledge I had acquired through all theses new sites. The end result can be seen at the top of the page. Not quite what I was wanting but not bad for my first one. She spans 14ft from tip to tip and highest point about 3 1/2ft. The coloring for this monster came from this little lady.

She is commonly known in Florida as a Banana Spider. As you can see even from this badly focused picture they are quite large and will scare the hell out of you if your not paying attention when walking through the woods.Well it was getting closer and closer to October and I noticed on the FLHaunters forum everyone had named there haunts. I didn't have a name and really couldn't think of one. The last week of September came along and I began to set up my haunt. While doing so I was about to clear some brush from the outer edges of my yard and I noticed a cousin to the one above. Although I can do without real spiders, I became curious and started to really look around my yard to see just how many of these spiders where here. Well I found about a dozen! About 5 of them where very close to my display! As you can see from the pic above I live in a wooded area, so the woods are theres I chose to keep it theres.I didn't really care for the name at first but it has grown on me and now I wouldn't have it any other way.
