Rising Spirit

This was one of those props that was very fun and easy to do. In fact I believe more will be showing up soon!  As always I would like to thank
the original creator, Dave The Dead, his inspired mine.
I started with a piece of  3/4 inch PVC. Stuck a
piece of rebar in the ground and then proceeded
to bend the PVC with a heat gun to my liking. I
also glued a PVC cross to the top.
Ok, now the fun begins! Grab some black plastic
tubing, the kind you use for sprinkler systems. I ran
5 pieces of dowel rod through the PVC in the area
ribs would be, then cut sections of the tubing and glued
them to the dowel rods. Next  I had an old garden
hose, I took that and wrapped it loosely around
PVC from bottom up to ribs. I then grabbed
some twine and did the same thing with that
about 4 times. Be sure to secure hose and twine
to PVC Loose, there is no wrong way to do this.
Now get yourself a can of Great Stuff foam, spray
it all up and down the PVC. Grab yourself a skull
and attach it to the top (cross). Let everything set.
I wanted my rising spirit to be white/off white. I hit the
black plastic with white paint, I also sprayed some
foam in and around there as well.
As you can see the weight is bending the PVC, more
on that in a minute.
On to more covering. I grabbed a pair of pantyhose and
pulled it up from the base and secured it just below
the ribs. I was going to do the same from the head down
but I made the ribs to big, so I grabbed some
landscape fabric to cover the ribs and used
pantyhose to cover skull.
Getting lower.
Well it had gone lower then I wanted, so I grabbed a
scrap piece of 1/2 inch PVC and ran it through the
cross and secured it with screws. I grabbed my
heat gun again and bent it into arms.
I wrapped twine around the arms, securing it to
the pipe with hotglue. I put some foam around
the shoulders (not much).
I then took another pair of stockings and covered
the arms.
The hands, I took a pair of rubber gloves and sprayed
foam inside, then each finger I ran a doubled wire
inside. You have to keep an eye on this, they will
inflate like balloons if you don't constantly push down
on them, keeping the hand shape. Next time I will
be using white gloves! LOL
I then ran the extra wire inside the PVC and glued
them in place.
I next covered the entire thing with laytex. Before
doing that I sliced holes in the pantyhose. As you
can see the laytex didn't turn the landscape fabric
all white, so I spray painted it white.
This was right after laytex and paint.
Here he is all finished. I slashed up the chest and a few other
places. After seeing it I didn't care for plain white, so I took
some blue/gray paint and dry brushed it on him. I also took
some glow paint in his eyes.
Here he is making his 1st appearance
in Spyderwood.
