the
right you will see a fantastic creation known as a Wailing Tree. The creators name is Ghostess. This is what inspired my animated version. I was hoping to have mine be a closer version to hers, in appearance but that is not the case, it took on a life all it's own............. and so Frankentree was born! LOL |

| To start I need a case/box
that would hold any electronics that I would use. I decided that the chest area was the best spot for this. I grabbed a scrap piece of particle board cut it to shape and pre-drilled holes to attach six 1x2's. If you look closely to the back two they are in a different direction then the other four. This is where I will put a door. |
|
| At the moment the box is
upside down. I drilled four holes to attach 3/4" pvc. This is also the back, you get a better view of the opening where the door will go. |
|
| Here I have attached the
chest to the base. Starting at the bottom going up, you will need 4 elbows, 4 T's, and 1 cross, along with different lengths of pvc. I have no measurements for these pieces, just cut them to length you prefer. the 4 pieces of pvc going up to the chest are capped with pvc extensions, then another short piece of pvc put into each one. Those are run through the holes drilled in the bottom of the chest. Then I ran a long screw through the pvc to hold the chest on. I also sprayed some Great Stuff foam in the holes, mainly to keep any bugs out. I trimmed off the excess. |
|
| Here you see what's going
to make it move, a shiastu massager. Take massager and remove the fabric covering the knobs, then remove the big plastics knobs, you should be left with a couple metal studs/rods. Take 2 flaired ends of gray pvc 3/4", I believe mine where about 10 inches long. On one side I attach an elbow on the other I attached a "T", then attached an elbow going up to attach the head too. |
|
| For the head I had found
one of those silly
dancing Skeletons, since it didn't work I removed the head and used it for this. I attached it using some pvc and screws. Now for the arms I used 2 fairly long lengths of pvc, attach them to the elbow and the "T". Next, using some gray plastic gutter strap, I screwed one end to the back of the massager, then wrapped and screwed it to the pvc sitting on the rods. Here I had to play with it a little pulling the strap tighter or making it looser with the massager running till I found movement I liked then screwing the strap in the correct position on the front. |
|
| Next step I took the
massager and attached
it to the top of what will be the chest or trunk of my tree. I used metal gutter strapping. I also ran the cord of the massager to the inside of the chest area. |
|
| Now that all that is
attached, I grabbed
my heat gun and about half way down each arm I put a slight bend in the arm, could be called the elbow area. Sorry I have no pic for this, but it is a simple procedure. |
|
| Here you can see the bend
in the arms. I
also have wrapped the entire body in chicken wire. When wrapping over the massager and shoulders I left a gap on the right and left side in the shoulder area, also in the neck area. I ran the massager to make sure it didn't hit the chicken wire, or as little as possible. For the arms I secured the chicken wire with zipties. I didn't connect the chicken wire to the shoulders, I left a gap of about 6 to 7 inches. Too get a better view of details, click on the photo to the right. |
|
| The door is made of a
scrap piece of foam
and a couple of small hinges. I first staple the chicken wire all around door frame then cut out the wire that was covering the door area. then I put the door on. I ran a long bolt through the foam for a temporary handle. |
|
| To have some
small branches at the end of the big limbs (arms), I took some flexible wire secured it to the chicken wire and the pvc, then further securing it to different spots with masking tape. Then bent the ends how I liked. |

| Here is where I truly
realized this was
going in it's own direction! To pad the chicken wire, I wrapped and taped a couple layers of newspaper. |
|
| Here I wrapped and taped
the wires at the end with newspaper, making sure to put the wires in the positions I wanted them. I also glued leaves from an old vine I had on the ends. This I found out later was a mistake. I had to take them off and put them back on at the end. |
